Twitter Abbreviations – Terms
So, you are new to Twitter. As I once was, I totally understand the frustration that one can have when you start seeing terms, abbreviations and words that you never seen before. To assist you in your future tweeting, and most importantly, to save those 140 characters from being used unwisely, I figured that it is appropriate and helpful to have a list of Twitter related words. By all means this list is not complete, and as I come across with newer terms, I will be including them in this list. If you are aware of any Twitter terms that are not yet included in this list, please help it grow by leaving them here in the comments area. I will update the list accordingly. ab/abt: short for about. B: short for be. chk: short for check. da: short for the. EM/eml: short for email. F2F: short for face to face. GR8: short for great. IC: short for I see. JK or j/k: short for just kidding. K: short for okay. L8: short for late. mil: short for million. njoy: short for enjoy. OH: short for overheard. peeps: short for people. R: short for are. shld: short for should thx: short for thanks. w or w/: short for with. Don’t forget, if you know other terms or words for use to Twitter Talk, please let me know.

b/c: short for because.
BFN: short for bye for now.
bgd: short for background.
BR: short for best regards.
BTW: short for by the way.
clk: short for click.
DM: short for direct message.
EMA: short for email address.
fab: short for fabulous.
fav/fave: short for favorite.
fwd: short for forward.
FYI: short for – For Your Information.
IM: short for instant message.
IMHO: short for in my humble opinion.
IRL: short for in real life.
itz: short for it is.
JSYK: short for just so you know.
kk: short for kewl kewl (cool cool).
L8er: short for later.
LMAO: short for laughing my ass off.
lmk: short for let me know.
LOL: short for laughing out loud.
MILT: short for mom I’d like to tweet.
OMG: short for oh my gosh/god.
plz: short for please.
ppl: short for people.
props: short for proper respect.
ROFL: short for rolling on floor laughing.
RT: short for retweet.
RU: short for are you.
TIA: short for thanks in advance.
ttyl: short for talk to you later.
ttys: short for talk to you soon.
w/e: short for weekend.
wld: short for would.
woz: short/slang for was.
wtf: short for what the f**k.
wth: short for what the heck.
I think this is not exclusive nor new to Twitter users. Abbreviations or text abbs have been in use for so many purposes since 1995. I'd been using these abbs since 1995 when SMS texting had become a trend in the Phils. and becomes it becomes habitual for most text-users, it has gone through beyond SMS but also, like me, who likes to abbreviate when chatting online, shouting at shoutboxes w/ limited characters capacity. Funny sometimes because they say it's twisting and ruining the English language—but I think it's not. It's just like an alternative . Filipinos had been texting even before Americans did. And you could laugh at how they abbreviate words like; good morning –"gud am" or come as "cum" —this is ridiculously funny.

@bingkee: I wouldn’t be as brave as you are in bringing up “cum” as a replacement for come. But what you said is true. And funny.

@Jan – Yeah. That bit of abbreviation left by @bingkee did slip by. It is funny indeed.
With regards to Twittnotes being an adjunct, I initially did thing about it, but for now it will be a seperate one. We’ll see how it goes.
